Elvis Presley’s family has announced that the famous Graceland mansion in Memphis will remain in the possession of the singer’s three granddaughters.
After the death of Elvis, the estate belonged to his only daughter and heiress Lisa Marie, but last week she died as a result of a heart attack.
According to a representative of the Elvis family, Lisa Marie Presley’s three daughters – Riley, Harper and Finley – will inherit the estate in Tennessee.
Elvis’ 54-year-old daughter will be buried at Graceland next to her father and son. “Lisa Marie’s final resting place will be in Graceland, next to her beloved son Ben,” a representative for one of her daughters said. Lisa Marie Presley’s son, Benjamin Keogh, committed suicide in August 2020, he was 27 years old.
A few days before her death, Lisa Marie visited Graceland to celebrate her father’s 88th birthday, which was celebrated on January 8.
After the news of her death, fans began to bring flowers and light candles at the gates of the mansion.
Elvis acquired Graceland in the late 1950s, when his records began to sell out in huge numbers. The area of the mansion is 1,626 square meters, it is also adjacent to a vast territory of 5.6 hectares. The singer lived there until his death in 1977 – and is buried there.
In 1982, the estate was opened to the public as a museum, and in 2006 it was declared a National Historical Monument of the USA.
According to the estate’s website, it is visited annually by more than 600 thousand people, thus Graceland is the most visited building in the United States after the White House.
A representative of the Graceland management has not yet responded to a request from reporters to confirm whether the estate will remain open to the public.
